Tempo Dance Festival is currently the ONLY pan-genre professional dance festival in New Zealand.
· The 14th annual Tempo Dance Festival will be held in Auckland’s theatre precinct in October 2017, featuring 40+ events, including ticketed shows, community events, free public performances and installations, artist talks and demonstrations, a legacy honouring and community development forums. Through outreach and travelling programmes, Tempo brings dance artists to both wider Auckland and other New Zealand communities.
· Since 2001, the charity New Zealand Dance Festival Trust, through its vehicle Tempo Dance Festival, has been providing a platform for emerging and mid-career dance artists to show their work to the New Zealand public. Each year 700+ artists perform in a vibrant programme to celebrate the diversity of dance.
· New Zealand’s dance artists deserve higher public awareness of their talent but it is expensive to stage and publicise a show. Tempo offers free venue, marketing, publicity, technical and other support to enable our talented artists to present their work to the New Zealand public.
· Tempo also brings dance artists together and promotes other artistic collaborations. Creating works and juggling practice with paid jobs can be an isolating experience, so Tempo Dance Festival is THE annual event where artists can gather, share ideas and find inspiration in the creativity of others.
· Tempo encourages a wide range of New Zealanders to engage with dance, watching, talking about it or doing it themselves. Tempo’s audiences have increased more than 350% since 2011.
